How will keeping my shoulders level (to the slope) cause the SKI COACH to give an audible ‘clink’?

Keeping your shoulders level to the slope (correct) allows the forces involved in the turn (centripetal) to pull the balls to the opposite end of the tube. As such an audible  ‘clink’ will be heard.

When should I hear the audible ‘clink’?

The audible ‘clink’ should be heard 2/3 of the way around the turn.

Why do I get an audible ‘clink’ earlier in the turn?

When you turn you may be dropping your downhill shoulder.  Dropping the downhill shoulder uses gravity as well as centripetal force so the balls move sooner.
Example: when you turn to the right you may be dropping your left shoulder (downhill shoulder). This causes the balls to move sooner and you may hear the audible ‘clink’ on the first 1/3 of the turn.

Is dropping the downhill shoulder incorrect?

Technically yes. However if you have always done the opposite (leant into the hill, as in the video) this will help with that problem. Sometimes ‘over exaggerating’ can help to fix a bad problem. If you constantly hear the audible ‘clink’ in the first 1/3 of the turn this is better than no clink at all. Now you have to work on getting the audible ‘clink’ 2/3 of the way around the turn. Tip: practice ‘dragging the poles’ exercise as outlined in the accompanying user guide.

Why am I not getting any audible feedback?

No feedback indicates that you are leaning into the hill or your shoulders are not staying level to the slope.  Please visit our website again and review the video footage.  Then spend more time practicing appropriate exercise as outlined in the accompanying user guide.

Why do I not get audible feedback on the first turn?

Make sure the balls are at the correct end of the tube before you begin. If you are going to turn right the balls should be at the right end of the tube (looking from behind). This will ensure that so long as you keep your shoulders level the balls will move across to the left end of the tube as you turn. The opposite would be true for a left turn.

Can I use the audible feedback to develop symmetry in my skiing?

Yes. The SKI COACH is an awesome tool for developing symmetry. Most people favor turning in one direction and you can use the audible feedback to help you improve you stance on the skis. Remember the feedback should be heard 2/3 of the way around the turn. If it is really late in one direction practice ‘Dragging the poles’ exercise (as outlined in the accompanying user guide). This will improve your stance and should make the timing of your turn(s) more symmetrical.

Can I wear the SKI COAH underneath my jacket?

Yes. However the level of audible feedback will be drastically reduced but the kinesthetic feedback will improve. We recommend that you wear it on the outside of your jacket.

Will all 3 balls always move to the opposite end of the tube if my stance is correct?

No. At very slow speeds and on very flat terrain only one or two may move to the opposite end of the tube.  However you should still hear an audible clink.
